1. Learning of local flora and fauna; restoration of natural monuments;

2. Raising the productivity of soils and their protection from erosion, developing of forest plants, fighting with floods.

3. Carrying stationary exploration on genetic and selective work on growing perspectivious  plants of the zone.

4. Investigation of the biogeochemical province;

5. Carrying research work in order to discover subsoil resources of the southern slope of the Great Caucasian zone, so learning local raw material reserves for their usage and for their using opportunities in the industry.

6. Exploration of the mulberry silkworm cocoon with complex physical methods; stimulation emanation in cattle-breeding and poultry.

7. Collecting and investigating of folklore and local trade of the region of Balakan-Shaki.

Main scientific results achieved by the organization during last five years

The mulberry silkworm lines having the power of endurance to illness have been created. Their silk extraction is more than 8-10%. The influence of bio-stimulators to the productivity of the mulberry silkworm has been learnt. Colouring style of hide-leather and woolen productions with new-achieved natural colouring substance has been offered. In order to prevent from the floods, the flood-creating factors and their formation, the offers have been prepared. New sorts of apples, pears have been created. The role of indicators in search of deposits of poly-metal ore has been learnt. Collection and investigation of regional folklore have been carried out and the folklore museum has been created. The books about the geographical problems of Shaki, Qakh, Zaqatala, Balakan, Oguz regions of the territory have been printed. At the same time the books of blessings have been edited. 3 theses of candidates have been defended.

Breeding of highly productive grades of silkworm resistant to diseases and productivity rate 8-10% higher than with regular grades of worm. Completion of studies of influence of bio-stimulants on silkworm productivity. Obtaining of new natural dye for coloring of the leather-skin and wool. Development of scientific recommendations on prevention of formations of mudflows. Breeding of new grades of apple, pear and cornelian cherry trees. Discovery of the role of micro-elements in exploration of poly-metal ores deposits. Conducting of studies of folklore of Belokan-Sheki region of Azerbaijan, collection of a big number of handcrafted items and organization of folklore museum. Publishing of monographs dedicated to geographical problems of Sheki, Gakh, Zagatala, Oghuz, Ballakan regions of Azerbaijan. Defending of 2 dissertations for the Candidate of Sciences degree.

The organization was founded as Shaki Zone Scientific Basis attached to the institution of Physics of Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan in 1972, was transferred to the submission of the Radiation sector, and it became independent Shaki Regional Scientific Centre in 1995. Since 1972 the laboratories of silkworm-breeding, physics, chemistry, geology, reserves of cultured and wild plants and since 1990 the laboratories of exploring floods and folklore and trade have been activating.
