On May 7, Presidium of ANAS joint with ANAS Institute of Oriental Studies named after acad. Ziya Bunyadov launched symposium devoted to Soviet Union Hero, State Laureate acad. Ziya Bunyadov’s 90th anniversary.

Event participants firstly pilgrimaged academician’s grave in the Avenue of Honor.

Opening the event president of ANAS, acad. Mahmud Karimov told about establishment and development way of oriental study school in Azerbaijan: “Academician Ziya Bunyadov was among founders of Azerbaijan oriental study school. His fundamental works such as “Azerbaijan in the VII-IX centuries”, “Atabek state of Azerbaijan”, “Khwarazm-Shahs- Anushtekins state” were classic samples of history not only in Azerbaijan, but also in the former Soviet Union.

Director assistant of the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of Russian Academy of Sciences, prof. Stanislaw Prozorov read the letter addressed to symposium on behalf of the management and staff of the Institute he was represented.

Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, Doctor of philological sciences, prof. Govhar Bakshaliyeva resumed on topic “Academician Ziya Bunyadov’s life and creativity”. She stressed out that academician was an expert on the history of the East and the Arab Caliphate, Azerbaijan, the Caucasus and Central Asia i8n the world, and had gained the sympathy of the broad masses of readers”.

Vice-President of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences prof. Bahram Abduhelimov made speech on acad. Ziya Bunyadov’s contributions to study of learning history of the Central Asia. Scientific secretary of the Georgian National Academy of Sciences, prof. Medea Abashidze presented Ziya Bunyadov’s biography as an example of a lesson. Chairman of the Spiritual Department of Moslems of Caucasus Sheykhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh told about role of Z. Bunyadov in the activity of office led by him as well as his translation the Korani-Karem into Azeri joint with acad. Vasim Mammadaliyev.

While event, film devoted to academician Ziya Bunyadov was demonstrated. After break reports were continued.

Symposium lasts its work over department meetings to be held in the Azerbaijan History Museum.
